Julie Simone

Director/Actress/Writer, Julie Simone, grew up on a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. While living between Los Angeles and New York, Julie joined a guerrilla style filmmaking group where she wrote, directed and acted in multiple short films. Julie's directorial feature debut Fiddlin' won 15 awards on the film festival circuit and was released in August of 2019. Fiddlin' is a music documentary about multi-generational musicians who are fiercely determined to keep Old Time and Bluegrass music alive. Julie returned to her mountain roots with her sister to film the talented musicians. Fiddlin' was a family affair with Julie's kids, nieces, and nephews pitching in as crew while her mom cooked for everyone and her dad set up camp. It was only after local Moose Lodge members learned that the sisters were natives and that they knew their grandpa that permission was granted to film at the 80th Anniversary of the World's Oldest Fiddlier's Convention. Julie is also developing and writing projects with GASP Studios and Calamity J Productions and continues to be involved in the many aspects of filmmaking, acting, and writing.
