Matthew-Lee Erlbach

Matthew-Lee is a German-American writer and actor raised in Chicago New York. He is the cousin of renowned sculptor Walter Erlebacher, painter Martha Mayer Erlebacher, and son of author Arlene Erlbach. His play The Doppelgänger (an international farce), starring Rainn Wilson, directed by Tina Landau premiered at Steppenwolf to a sold-out run. Also for Steppenwolf: Radical, Revelations, and MHMJ. His plays have been developed or produced at Ars Nova, New Group, MCC, Vineyard, Williamstown, Space on Ryder Farm, the Orchard Project, and the New Harmony Project, among others. A recipient of the Humanitas Prize New Voices Award, he has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Laurents/Hatcher Foundation, Elizabeth F. Cheney Foundation, Puffin Foundation, and was a member of Ars Nova's 14/15 Play Group. A frequent volunteer, he is a team leader for Habitat for Humanity and runs a writing program for sing mothers transitioning out of homelessness and prison.
