At a street naming ceremony in his honor, Allen Iverson returns to his hometown to reflect on his roots. Raised in poverty and violence in Hampton and Newport News, he overcame adversity to lead Bethel High to state titles. In 1993, a bowling alley brawl lands him in prison, sparking national outrage and a battle for his freedom.
Ann Iverson fights to free her son, seeking guidance from Georgetown coach John Thompson. Under Thompson’s mentorship, Allen rises to stardom. He leaves college early, is drafted #1 by the 76ers in 1996, and becomes Rookie of the Year. His rapid rise and cultural impact draw both praise and criticism, while tensions with coach Larry Brown escalate.
The episode opens with Iverson’s Game 1 victory over the Lakers in the 2001 NBA Finals, earning national respect despite the loss. That year, he marries Tawanna Turner and mourns the murder of his close friend. Amid controversies, including the "practice" press conference and clashes with the NBA, Iverson stays true to himself, redefining the NBA and inspiring a new generation.
